Institute for Environmental Governance Review
Independent Reviews for Effective Environmental Governance
Our mission is to strengthen environmental governance worldwide by providing independent, evidence-based reviews of institutional frameworks, policies and implementation capacities, supporting governments and partners in advancing effective, transparent and sustainable environmental decision-making.
Environmental Performance Reviews (EPR) have been carried out by OECD and UNECE for their member countries since 1995.
The OECD and ECE Environmental Performance Reviews are internationally recognised as high-impact policy tools that drive real environmental reforms, strengthen institutions, increase transparency, and support sustainable development through independent, peer-based evaluation.
Many countries and regions are requesting such reviews to be elaborated to strengthen their environmental governance and to better implement the Sustainable Development Goals, international obligations and national strategies.
Due to resource restrictions, OECD and UNECE can undertake only 2-4 EPRs per year, giving priority to their member States.
This is where our Institute for Environmental Governance Review (IEGR) comes in.
We are a spin-off from the UN. Former, high-qualified UN staff. Long-standing experts on EPRs.
We service all non-OECD and non-UNECE countries. We offer Environmental Governance Reviews (EGR), following the well-established EPR methodology. We call it EGR to dissociate us from UNECE and OECD. And we improved the working methods so that our EGR are:
TIMELY
RELIABLE
EFFICIENT
AFFORDABLE
...with an outstanding quality, rooted in our long-lasting experience and our determination to make this world a better place to live.
